Who we are
Select a Solicitor is a trading name of Resolve My Dispute Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 15182581. We are the data controller for the personal information you give us through this website, and we are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under registration number ZB879464. You can contact us at hello@selectasolicitor.com or by phone on 020 4520 8641.
We are not a law firm and we do not give legal advice. We pass enquiries to participating solicitor firms, who pay us a referral fee.
What we collect
When you complete our enquiry form, we collect:
- your name, email address and, if you choose to give it, your telephone number;
- your preferred contact method and time;
- the area of law, whether the enquiry is personal or for a business, your country and postcode area;
- what has happened, the outcome you want, any dates or deadlines you mention, whether you already have a solicitor, and your funding preference;
- a record of your consent, including the wording you agreed to and when.
Please only tell us what is needed to describe your matter. Do not include health information or other sensitive details unless they are essential to your enquiry.
How we use your information
- to review your enquiry for matching purposes and look for a participating solicitor who handles that type of matter;
- to share your enquiry with a suitable participating solicitor so they can contact you;
- to contact you about your enquiry, including following up on an enquiry you started but did not finish;
- to keep records of consents and referrals, and to deal with any complaints;
- to send you updates, only if you ticked the optional box agreeing to this.
Our legal basis
We share your enquiry with a solicitor on the basis of your consent, which you give on the form. You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us, although this will not affect anything already shared. We keep consent and referral records because we have a legitimate interest in running the service properly and being able to show what you agreed to.
Who we share it with
- Participating solicitor firms — where there is a suitable match. Each firm is responsible for how it uses your information once it receives it, and will have its own privacy notice.
- Service providers who host this website and store our data on our behalf.
- An AI service — only if you press "Help me describe my enquiry". The text you have typed is sent to an AI model to suggest questions you might answer. Its suggestions are prompts only, not legal advice.
We do not sell your information.
How long we keep it
We keep your enquiry for as long as we need it to handle your enquiry and referral, and to meet our legal and record-keeping obligations. After that it is deleted.
Unfinished enquiries
Once you enter your contact details and continue past that step of the form, what you have entered so far is saved so we can follow up with you about this enquiry, even if you don't finish the form. Unfinished enquiries are never passed to a solicitor. You can ask us to delete an unfinished enquiry at any time by emailing us.
Information stored on your device and cookies
While you complete the form, your answers are saved in your browser for that session so you do not lose them if you go back a step. They are cleared once you submit the form or close the browser tab. We also store your cookie choice, and when you made it, in your browser.
If you click "Accept" on our cookie notice, we record anonymous measurement events about the enquiry form (when it is started, each step completed, and when it is submitted) so we can see how well the form works and measure our advertising. These events do not include your name, contact details or what you write about your matter, and they may be sent to advertising or analytics providers we use for that purpose. If you click "Reject", no such events are recorded. You can change your choice at any time using "Cookie settings" at the bottom of our home page.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent. To make a request, email hello@selectasolicitor.com.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
